Gxalingenwa Cave Hike

Gxalingenwa Cave Hike

Posted on by admin

Let our expert and knowledgeable hiking guides help you get the most out of the wonderful hiking opportunities in the Drakensberg Mountains. We work together with excellent local guides who are fully qualified mountain walking guides at Level 4 under the NQF framework. They are also highly experienced hikers in the Southern Drakensberg and a few days with them will give you an unforgettable experience of our mountains at their best

This two day guided hike will follow the beautiful Gxalingenwa valley upstream as far as Gxalingenwa Cave. Along the way, you’ll pass sparkling pools in the river (some great swimming spots), the large waterfall, indigenous forest, Bushman rock art sites and spectacular views as you get higher and deeper into the pristine wilderness areas of the Drakensberg. Stay the night in the cave, and then return on day two via the summit of Ndlovini mountain (2208m) with fantastic views of the whole southern Drakensberg.

  1. Please download the kit list and the food list for guided hiking (click on the links)
  2. Prices include overnight fees for KZN Wildlife which are currently set at R70pp per night.
  3. These are set scheduled hikes, and as such a number of different individuals or groups may join the hike. This means that hikers of different levels of fitness and ability will be mixed in the same group. Those taking part need to understand this, as it will impact on speed of hiking, times on the trail and what objectives may be achieved by the group as groups will not under any circumstances be split up.
  4. The price does not include food. You are expected to provide your own food as well as cooking and eating utensils. We can provide a packed lunch at R50pp and do have a small camping stove ( 1 – 2 person) which comes with pots for hire at R10 per day plus R20 for a bottle of fuel (methylated spirits). Our food list should give you an idea of what food to bring along.
